Weekend crime round-up

Among the crimes reported was the robbery of a woman, who was threatened at gunpoint after boarding a taxi in town.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – A home in Bloomberg Street, Minnebron, was burgled of a laptop, two wristwatches, a firearm, firearm accessories and other valuables.
* A white Toyota Etios was stolen from an address along Queen Avenue.
* A cyclist was robbed by the driver of an Opel Corsa at the corner of Queen Avenue and High Street at 15:00.

The victim had fallen over after almost being struck by the Corsa. The driver then got out of the car and took the victim’s bicycle and cellphone.

* A mountain bike and two gas bottles were stolen during a break-in at a home along Gardiner Avenue.
* A white Hyundai H100 was stolen from Voortrekker Road.

Saturday – A male motorist was robbed of his cellphone at the Heidelberg and Rangeview roads intersection, near Dalpark.
A lone thief grabbed the cellphone while the victim was stationary at the traffic lights at around 21:15.

Sunday – A red Yamaha motorbike was stolen from an address along Olga Street in Brenthurst.
* A trailer was stolen from a property in Taft Avenue.
* A female taxi commuter was robbed of her belongings at gunpoint after boarding a taxi in Voortrekker Road at 15:15.

There were three male occupants in the Toyota Quantum, including the driver. After driving off, one of the men moved to the back of the taxi where the victim was seated, pulled her face mask up over her eyes and demanded her cellphone.

The driver then pulled out a firearm and threatened to shoot her. The victim was forced to hand over her cellphone and the men accessed her banking app. She was also robbed of R300 in cash, and dropped off near Carnival City.

* The driver of a white Toyota Hilux bakkie was hijacked at an address along Sapelie Avenue in Leachville.
The victim, who was accompanied by his two brothers, arrived at the residence at 20:15. The trio soon found themselves surrounded by four gunmen.

They were instructed to lie on the ground while the hijackers searched them. The hijackers took R6 000 in cash, two cellphones, a set of keys to another vehicle, and then made their getaway in the Hilux.
