Weekend crime round-up

A Prince George Avenue supermarket and take-away was robbed by two men.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – Angle grinders, a circular saw and a weed eater were stolen from the garage of a residence along Hofmeyr Street in Brenthurst.

* A home in Fish Street, Sallies Village, was burgled of several gas stoves, a gas bottle, a fridge, a mattress, blankets and groceries.

Saturday – A silver Volkswagen Polo was stolen from the corner of Voortrekker Road and Kerry Street.
* A home in New Kleinfontein Road, Leachville, was burgled of a cellphone, cash, clothing, a pair of boots and a brush cutter.

* Electric cables valued at R8 000 were stolen during a break-in at a business along Van Dyk Road in Kenleaf.

Sunday – A Prince George Avenue supermarket and take-away was robbed by two men. The pair entered the shop at 19:15 and threatened an employee with a firearm. He was instructed to lie on the floor and the robbers demanded money and cellphones.

The robbers helped themselves to cash, cellphones and groceries, and assaulted another of the shop’s employees.
As they fled, one of the robbers accosted the shop owner who was outside.

The owner was robbed of his cellphone, wallet and vehicle – in which the robbers made their getaway. The stolen vehicle is a white Opel Corsa bakkie.

* A man who lives in a back room on the premises of a business in Prince George Avenue was assaulted and tied up by six robbers.

The robbers gained entry to the property around midnight. Three of the intruders were armed with guns and the victim was struck over the head with a firearm.

The robbers bound his hands and feet, and then covered his face with a blanket. One of the men was left to keep guard while the others made their way inside the shop. The victim untied himself after the robbers left and sought help.

The manager arrived and found the shop had been ransacked. Numerous goods had been stolen including two generators, a computer, a microwave, cash and stock. They also stole two cellphones and cash from the victim’s room.

* A home in Northdene Avenue was broken into and a TV, a laptop and two cellphones were stolen.

* An amplifier, speakers, clothing, shoes and cash were stolen during a break-in at an address along Stoffberg Avenue.
