Weekend crime round-up

The driver of a white Toyota Hilux bakkie was hijacked on the N17 highway, near Dalpark.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – An excavator was stolen from a business in Second Road, Sallies Village. The kitchen on the premises was burgled of a microwave, a fridge and a kettle, and four container on the property were also broken into.

* A tablet, jewellery and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a home in Germains Avenue.
* A white Toyota Dyna was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

Saturday – Two men were arrested following a robbery at a gambling shop in Voortrekker Road. The business was robbed of cash by two men at around 23:50. A cashier on duty pressed the panic button after the pair fled and two suspects were apprehended shortly afterwards.

* A TV was stolen during a burglary at a home in Van Vollenhoven Street, Sherwood Gardens.
* A residence in Gladstone Avenue was burgled of a washing machine, gas cylinders, a vacuum cleaner and a set of pots.

Sunday – A white Big Boy motorcycle was stolen from an address along Dikbas Crescent in Leachville.

* The driver of a white Toyota Hilux bakkie was hijacked on the N17 highway, near Dalpark. The incident took place at around 15:00 when the victim was forced off the road by the occupants of an unidentified silver vehicle.

Once he had stopped, four men alighted the silver vehicle and surrounded the bakkie. The victim was pushed to the back and told not to move.

The men got into the bakkie and the victim was searched and robbed of his cellphone. He was also forced to open his banking app and the hijacker transferred money from his account.

The victim was dropped off in a veld and told to walk and not look back. He later discovered he was in Alexandra, Johannesburg.
