Weekend crime round-up

Five men hijacked the driver of a truck along Lemmer Road in Vulcania.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – Two burglaries occurred.
A TV was stolen during a break-in at a home in Olga Mitchell Street, Anzac, while a TV, a speaker and bottles of wine were stolen from a residence in Witpoortjie Road, Rand Collieries.
* Tyres were stolen from a trailer parked at an address along Witpoortjie Road in Rand Collieries.
* Five men hijacked the driver of a truck along Lemmer Road in Vulcania.
The incident took place at around 17:00.
The driver, who was accompanied by two colleagues, was forced to stop the truck after the occupants of a white car overtook him and then braked.
The truck was then surrounded by men and the victims were threatened at gunpoint and robbed of their cellphones and wallets.
The hijackers climbed into the truck and drove the victims to a secluded area near Tsakani where they then stopped and forced the trio into the back of the truck.
They were then driven to an open veld and told to get out.
The driver was assaulted after he attempted to grab a gun from one of the hijackers. A shot was also fired in his direction.
The victims were told to walk away and the hijackers drove off in the truck.

Saturday – A home in Prince George Avenue was burgled of various household items including kitchen appliances, a clock radio, a gas bottle and groceries.

Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.
