Weekend crime round-up.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – A business in Airport Drive, Dalpark, was broken into.
While nothing was stolen, the perpetrators caused damage to the tune of around R50 000.
* A white Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen from Carnival City.
* A smash-and-grab was reported at the intersection of Voortrekker and Station roads.

A male motorist was stationary at the traffic lights at about 19:30 when two men approached his vehicle. One went to the passenger side while the other, who was armed with a gun, stood at the driver’s side.

The gunman’s accomplice then smashed the window with an unknown object. The motorist pulled off and drove to the Brakpan Police Station. Nothing was taken from the vehicle. A case of malicious damage to property has been opened.

* A home in Grey Avenue was broken into and a TV was stolen.
* A scooter, an off-road motorcycle and various tools were stolen during a burglary at an address along Germains Avenue.
* A Northdene Avenue residence was burgled of tools and clothing.
A car on the property was also broken into.
* A security guard was robbed and assaulted by a group of men while he was on duty at a business at the corner of Denne and Lemmer roads in Vulcania.
The victim was overpowered by three men when he left the guardroom to drink water from an outside tap at around 22:00.
One of the men was armed with a knife.

They demanded the keys to the gate and assaulted the victim when he told them the supervisor had the keys.
The trio handcuffed the victim and were then joined by two more accomplices. They had a pair of bolt cutters and tried to cut open the gate, but failed.

The men then robbed the guard of his cellphone, pepper spray, radio and other belongings and took him to another location on the premises and left the scene. The guard waited about 10 minutes and then sought help.
A case of armed robbery is under investigation.

Saturday – A laptop and other valuables were stolen from a car parked along Voortrekker Road.
* An e-hailing driver was robbed in Brakpan after picking up two passengers in Van Dyk Park, Boksburg.

The driver collected the pair just after 17:00. One man sat in the back while the other sat in the front passenger seat. While travelling along Lawrence Road in Dalpark towards Mall@Carnival, the passenger in the back grabbed the driver and the man in the front pulled out a gun and pressed it against the victim’s thigh.

Both then started to assault the driver with fists. The driver managed to stop the car, take the key out of the ignition, get out of the vehicle and run away. He stopped and watched from afar as the men got out of the car and ran off.

When he went back to the vehicle he found his wallet, which contained cash and cards, and his cellphone had been stolen.

Sunday – Electrical wires, circuit breakers, a kettle, clothing and safety boots were stolen during a burglary at a business along Porter Avenue.
