Police clamp down on crime

Brakpan was overrun by law enforcement last Thursday during an Okae Molao operation, as efforts continue to clamp down on crime.

The operation was conducted by members from various police stations in the Ekurhuleni district, Gauteng Traffic, EMPD, Prasa Protection Services, Department of Home Affairs, the CPF and other stakeholders.

They gathered for parade at Mall@Carnival, where they were addressed by Brakpan SAPS station commander Brig Fredl Jonck.

From there they dispersed to conduct roadblocks and stop-and-searches at several locations in Brakpan, including along the N17 highway. Pamphlets with safety tips regarding crime were distributed to motorists.

Second-hand goods businesses and liquor outlets were searched for compliance, and police were also on the lookout for drugs and stolen goods.

During the operation, five illegal immigrants were arrested, two people were arrested for possession of drugs and one person was arrested for dealing in drugs.

In addition, 10 fines to the value of R3 350 were issued, three shebeens were closed and three fines were issued to second-hand good dealers for non-compliance.
