Woman robbed at gunpoint after tricksters con their way into her home

Brakpan police have urged residents to be vigilant and not to allow strangers into their homes.

A 56-year-old Muir Avenue resident fell victim to house robbers who gained access to her home by posing as officials offering Covid-19 vaccines.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the perpetrators are going from house to house and informing the occupants that they can register them for vaccines.

The robbers, two men wearing masks, and a woman in a white dress, arrived at the victim’s home last Thursday and offered to assist her.

The woman, who claimed to be a doctor from a hospital, told the victim that if she registers for the vaccine, she will receive a R1 000 food voucher.

They left and returned the following day at around 10:00. The victim’s daughter opened the gate for them and they reversed the vehicle in which they were travelling, a Hyundai i20, into the yard.

It is believed the victim stays in a building on the property and not in the main house.

The trio then entered the victim’s room and asked for water. The two men, each armed with a gun, then threatened the victim.

They took the jewellery she was wearing and then tied her hands with cable ties. The robbers stole her cellphone, a TV, two gaming consoles, perfume, a laptop and a speaker.
