Weekend crime round-up

The driver of a white Toyota Hilux Legend was hijacked near Leachville.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A home in Muir Avenue was burgled of a TV, cellphones, a gaming console and other household items.
* A car parked at the corner of Athlone and Glamorgan avenues in Dalpark was broken into and a schoolbag, a laptop and a cellphone were stolen.

Saturday – A white Toyota Tazz was stolen from an address along Recreation Way in Anzac.
* The driver of a white Toyota Hilux Legend was hijacked along Heidelberg Road (R23), near Leachville. While travelling near Makro Carnival at around 10:00, the victim noticed the occupants of a white BMW X3 following him.

The vehicle eventually pulled up alongside him and a man in the BMW pointed a gun at him and instructed him to pull over. After stopping on the side of the road, the victim was approached by the driver of the BMW.

Two other men, one of whom was armed with a pistol, also appeared next to his vehicle and hit the windows, telling him to open the doors.

After unlocking the car, the victim was forced into the backseat where he was told to lie down and the hijackers drove off with him.

He was then transferred to another vehicle and the hijackers demanded the PINs for his bank cards.
The victim was later dropped off in a secluded area and the hijackers told him ‘not to move’ for five minutes or they would shoot him.

After the hijackers left, the victim walked to a nearby road and sought help from a passerby who took him to the Heidelberg Police Station.
* A storeroom at a property along Craigholm Street in Dalview was broken into.
Computer cables and tools were stolen.

Sunday – A case of common robbery is under investigation after three taxi commuters were robbed in a Toyota Quantum along the R23 near Withok Estates.

After boarding the taxi at around 12:00, the victims were robbed of their personal belongings, including a cellphone and clothing, at knifepoint. The driver and four other passengers were involved.
