Police weed out drug dealers near primary school

The men were arrested and detained at the local police station.

Drugs valued at R200 000 were confiscated by police at an address near a local primary school in Dalview last week. Three men were also arrested.

According to Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, officers were patrolling the area last Thursday when they spotted a suspicious-looking man at around 20:00.

“The police approached him and searched him. He was found in possession of drugs and a 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off,” she said.

The man led officers to an address along Braemer Street after he was questioned about where he had bought the drugs.

“Upon arrival, a male introduced himself as the owner of the residence and then the police searched the premises,” said van Staad.

“They found another male processing drugs.”

Police confiscated the drugs and dagga worth approximately R200 000. The men were arrested and detained at the local police station.

They face charges of dealing in and possession of drugs and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Brakpan SAPS station commander Brig Fredl Jonck applauded the vigilant approach.

Local police confirmed to the Herald on Tuesday morning that the case against the trio had not been scrapped from the court roll as falsely reported by some members of the community.

The suspects appeared in court on Friday where two of the men were granted bail and the other was remanded in custody.

They were due to appear in court again this week. Police warned members of the public not to spread fake news.
