Brakpan North couple shot during robbery

The husband (32) was shot in the stomach and leg, while his wife (30) sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach.

A Brakpan North couple was rushed to hospital yesterday morning (July 28) after they were shot during a house robbery.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the incident took place at an address along Little Street around 04:45 after three men gained access to the home through a small window in the kitchen.

The intruders were confronted by the couple in the passage and one of the robbers fired three shots. The man (32) was shot in the stomach and leg, while the woman (30) sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach.

The balaclava-clad robbers then rounded up an elderly couple who also live in the house. The 67-year-old woman and her husband (72) were forced into the lounge, where the robbers demanded cash, jewellery, and laptops.

The robbers took four wristwatches, a TV, and a laptop, which they loaded into the elderly woman’s car, a white Fiat, and fled the scene.

After they left, an ambulance was called and the injured couple was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital.

Brakpan police recovered three 9mm spent cartridges on the scene and a case of house robbery is under investigation.
