Spreading fake news causes panic

When reporting an incident please include the date, time, and location of the incident so that that it can be verified, and if spread again later on it is apparent that it is dated information.

The spread of unverified and false information or so-called fake news can spread unnecessary panic among residents.

While it is important to keep up to date on the developments surrounding the violence of the nationwide looting to ensure your safety, the spread of untrue information taxes law enforcement resources.

When you receive a Whatsapp message or voice note about the violence and you are unsure of its origin, please share it with your security group admin, local CPF or your security company before forwarding the message further.

The best practice is to ask yourself the following questions before sharing any message:

• Should I share the message?

• Is the information in the message true?

• Do I have proof that the information is true?

• Is the information from a credible source?

If you are unsure about the answer to any of these questions being a definite yes you should not share it before it is verified.

If you see an incident or unrest and what to report the information via Whatsapp or Facebook to one of the tour groups please ensure that in your message or voice note you include the date, time and location of the incident so it can be verified and if spread again later on it is apparent that it is dated information.
