Arion Equestrian Centre hosts showjumping event

The atmosphere was calm and all the riders did a great job

Arion Equestrian Centre in Rand Collieries hosted a graded and training showjumping event on Sunday.
It was a frisky morning but the excitement in the air was clear. Arion has been owned by Ariska van der Linde (33) for the last three years and is home to 34 horses and two donkeys.
“The day went smoothly. We had a full day of entries. The atmosphere was calm and all the riders did a great job,” said van der Linde.
Lorraine Porter (45) and her horse, First Class, won the 1m class.
“I’m ecstatic to have won my class. First Class and I have had a long journey and are getting things back on track,” she said.
Porter has been riding for 35 years and has had First Class by her side for the last nine years.
Giorgia Mavrikis (19) and Legacy Boris took first place in the 90cm showjumping class.
“I’m excited to have won. This was our second 90cm show. Now we get to go up to 1m,” she said.
“Boris and I make a mean team thanks to my riding instructor, Helene Holloway.”
Mavrikis has been riding Boris for three years and has only been competing for eight months. She said Boris has a big and quirky personality.
