I hereby respond to your article ‘Sluipslapers is ‘n steen des aanstoots’ in the Brakpan Herald dated May 28.
Yes, they are an eyesore. Yes, they are bad. Yes, they are here, there and everywhere!
They are here because the national government, provincial government and local government fail them dismally.
So does the church, so do you and I. Let us consider the homeless.
Matthew 25:40 Jesus said: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me.”
It’s easy for us to forget what we don’t see every day. It’s easy to neglect what we aren’t reminded to remember.
It’s easy for us to ignore so much. But God wants us to consider and care for those less fortunate than ourselves.
Many of our communities provide shelters for the homeless, but these shelters always need food, clothing, bedding and volunteers.
God wants us to consider the homeless – not just at Thanksgiving and Christmas time but every day of the year.
Sadly many churches neglect this matter. Pray for those in your community who have no homes.
Ask God to give them a safe place to live.
Pray for funding and staffing for shelters and soup kitchens that minister to the homeless. Pray for an opportunity to show God’s love through volunteering at a homeless shelter.
May God bless you!
