Biker caught going over twice the speed limit

The man told officers he was a businessman rushing to open his shop.

Three motorists and a motorcyclist were arrested by members of the EMPD’s Anti-High Speed Unit in Brakpan last Wednesday.

The four, who were nabbed for speeding and face charges of reckless and negligent driving, were nabbed along Heidelberg Road (R23), near Mans Street in Withok Estates, between 8am and 10am.

This stretch of road is a 100km/h zone.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, the man on a green Kawasaki motorbike was stopped and handcuffed after clocking 220km.

The man told officers he was a businessman rushing to open his shop.

The other offenders, two men and a woman, were arrested for registering speeds of 139km, 143km and 155km respectively.

Their excuses included rushing to court in Johannesburg, on the way to school and late for deliveries.

The arrested foursome was taken to the Brakpan Police Station.
