Weekend crime round-up

 A case of attempted murder was opened after the occupants of a white Audi opened fire on two security escorts near Withok Estates.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A gang of robbers made off with truck and car batteries, as well as other valuables, after robbing a business in Voortrekker Road.
The robbers entered the premises at 10.20am and threatened staff at gunpoint.

While the staff only saw two men, they heard several voices.

The robbers fled with 60 car and truck batteries, five battery chargers, two battery testers and a large sum of cash.

In addition, a security guard who responded to the panic alarm, was robbed of his firearm.
A case of business robbery is under investigation.

• Saturday – A concrete cutter was stolen during a robbery at a construction site along Blyde Avenue in Leachville. The incident took place around 2.20am when five men entered the premises and overpowered the security guards on duty.
One guard was injured during the robbery.

The victims, who were travelling along Heidelberg Road (R23) in a white Toyota Hilux bakkie, were escorting two trucks from KwaZulu-Natal to their destination in Boksburg when they heard gunshots at about 12.40pm.

They saw two occupants of an Audi firing shots in their direction.

The driver of the Audi then tried to block the road but the pair managed to escape.

The victims stopped the bakkie, which was riddled with bullet holes, near Mans Street and fled into the veld to hide.

Security back-up and police were notified and arrived on the scene shortly afterwards.

The victims were uninjured.

* A home in Sunset Boulevard in Sonneveld was bugled of laptops, wristwatches, a gaming console and other household items.

• Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of going to print.
