Brakpan North electricity restoration may take days

Five of six cables in the area have been damaged.

Residents of Brakpan North can expect to be without power for the next few days.

The suburb has been without electricity since Sunday afternoon.

The power outage was first thought to be load shedding, but reports later emerged of a damaged cable near the Sherwood Shopping Centre.

Speaking to the Herald this afternoon (Monday), ward councillor for the area, Brandon Pretorius, explained he had received feedback from the chief supervisor from Eskom who reported they had managed to locate the problem.

Five of six cables in the area have been damaged and will need to be joined.

“According to him, work has started but it will take them four days to complete the work,” said Pretorius.

“The current estimate is that power will only be restored by Friday.

“I have already requested that a full scale investigation be launched to ensure the persons responsible be held accountable.”

Pretorius added that if he receives any new information, he will immediately inform residents.
