WATCH: Fire guts row of Kitzinger Avenue shops

According to a bystander on the scene, the fire started at around 5am.

Distraught shop owners watched in horror as their livelihoods went up in blaze on Friday morning.

A fire, the cause of which is not known at this stage, gutted about 10 shops along Kitzinger Avenue.

According to a bystander on the scene, the fire started at around 5am.

Some of the affected shop owners managed to safely retrieve some of the stock from their shops.

The road was closed and a large crowd of people had gathered to watch firefighters in action.

Shop owners stood in disbelief.

Firefighters were still containing the blaze in one or two of the shops when the Herald left the scene just before 8am.
