Brakpan High School recently celebrated its Class of 2020 during a final assembly.
The matric learners, who faced their final schooling year with the challenges brought on by the coronavirus, left the school through a guard of honour formed by some Grade 11 learners.
Covid-19 regulations prevented the school from holding its usual valedictory service, but the assembly was meaningful and special, and much appreciated by the matric class.
School principal Lucky Nkopane addressed the matriculants and offered words of motivation, good wishes and a farewell.
The top-performing learners of the year were honoured. They are:

Afrikaans: William Beukes and Whitley Reetley
Consumer studies: Gontse Chakale
Business studies: Miliswa Nashwa
English: Angeline Mampane and Shaznay Botha
Geography: Sbonelo Kunene
Physical science: Xolile Kubheka
Tourism: Mispa Tafa
Accounting: Martha Maluleka
Computer applications technology: Martha Maluleka
Life sciences: Thando Shube
Mathematics: Thando Shube
History: Aaminah Rawat
Mathematical literacy: Aaminah Rawat
Life orientation: Aaminah Rawat
Rawat was also named the school’s top matric learner.
She was followed by Nicole Britto in second place, Thando Shube and Martha Maluleka in joint third, and Ntandwenhle Zondi and Mispa Tafa in joint fourth.
