Oversight committee members welcomed by EMPD

The members, who are on a three-year term, are ready to hit the ground running.

Seven oversight committee members have been appointed to the EMPD.

The members received a warm welcome from EMPD chief of police Jabulani Mapiyeye and other officials during a function held in Bedfordview last Thursday.

The members, who are on a three-year term, are ready to hit the ground running.

Their function includes creating processes for risk governance, monitoring and reporting to the city manager, creating clear defined duties and improving effectiveness within the EMPD, amongst others.

The members are councillor Olga Makgoba, Louis Steenkamp, Lihle Ndzelu, Raymond Gundula, Dr Mikal Reza Patel, Melane Kruger and councillor Khehla Madlala.

“This is a gap we wished to fill since the EMPD inception/formal launch in February 2002.

Today, we are delighted because we have the immediate team, who will somehow assist in policing the metro police,” said Mapiyeye.
