Karen Herbst will be taking over the reins as the new chairperson of the East Rand Business Women (ERBW).

The Morganridge resident is a financial planner by profession. Due to Herbst’s financial background, she would like to help women make informed decisions regarding their finances.

“I’m passionate about empowering women, and I want to help them become financially independent,” she said.

Herbst became involved with the ERBW in 2015 and officially became a member of the network in 2016.

She said she is excited about being the new chairperson “It’s going to be challenging; however, I’m working with an excellent team,” the new chairperson said.

“We have an exciting programme full of surprises planned for next year and would like businesswomen to join us. Companies could even send their secretaries to represent them.

“The ERBW presents a platform to bring the world of business and women together. Women learn from each other and network while enjoying a delicious three-course meal during our meetings,” she explained.

Herbst highlighted that the ERBW also gets speakers to address the women during ERBW functions.

“We go through a lot of effort to source a variety of dynamic guest speakers to attend the event. Speakers such as the private investigator, Mike Bolhuis, advocate Gerrie Nel and actress Susan Coetzer stood out for me,” she highlighted.

Karen said she is family-orientated and happily married to Johan.

Her parents and Antoinette Swanepoel, the previous chairperson, inspire her.

When she is not doing business, Karen loves to read and socialise with friends and family.

“Always surround yourself with motivated people. If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything,” she added.
