Weekend crime round-up

The driver of a white Hyundai truck was hijacked in Vulcania.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.

• Saturday – A white Nissan Sentra was stolen from Frere Avenue.

* A female taxi commuter was robbed of her belongings by four men travelling in a white Toyota Quantum.

The victim boarded the taxi at around noon at the corner of Voortrekker Road and Prince George Avenue.

Once they had driven off, one of the men overpowered the victim and searched her, taking her cash, two cellphones and a pair of tekkies.

She was forced out of the vehicle near Location Road.

* The driver of a white Hyundai truck was hijacked in Vulcania.

The victim was held at gunpoint by three men when he stopped at an address along Ergo Road at around 7pm.

He was robbed of his cellphone and wallet and driven to Nigel where he was let go.

The hijackers also demanded the pin number to his bank card and money was withdrawn from his bank account.

The vehicle has since been recovered.

• Sunday – A smash-and-grab was reported at the intersection of Athlone Avenue and Van der Walt Road in Dalview.
A female motorist was stationary at the traffic lights at about 7.20am when her front passenger window was smashed by a man who attempted to grab her handbag from the seat.

The woman was able to hold onto her bag and drove off.

* Four break-ins were reported, two of which occurred along Corvette Street in Kenleaf.

Two homes along this street were burgled of various household items including TVs, laptops, kitchen appliances and jewellery.

The other incidents saw a residence in Brodigan Avenue, Dalview, burgled of a TV, a laptop and jewellery, while a computer, laptops, a projector and other goods were stolen from a business in Strauss Street, Van Eck Park.
