Community’s patience during water supply interruption is appreciated

Technicians discovered the water supply at the Sallies Reservoir in Brakpan was lower than usual.

The City of Ekurhuleni has thanked residents and businesses in Brakpan for their patience during a recent water supply interruption.

The supply of water to parts of Brakpan, Tsakani and Langaville has now been restored.

Should anyone still experience any problems they are requested to immediately inform the municipality.

Ekurhuleni MMC for Water and Sanitation Clr Tiisetso Nketle acknowledged the technical teams that worked tirelessly to minimise the impact on residents by introducing a rigorous regime to balance the water levels in reservoirs supplying the affected areas.

“I am particularly grateful to our businesses, residents and other stakeholders who showed understanding and patience while recovery efforts were being implemented. It is through working together as partners that our shared vision to take our city to greater heights may be achieved,” she said.

On September 9, technicians discovered the water supply at the Sallies Reservoir in Brakpan was lower than usual.

Upon investigation and inquiring with Rand Water it was confirmed a breakdown was experienced at their booster pump station, which supplies the Rand Water reservoirs at Sallies Village in Brakpan.

The 23 megalitre Zulu and 16 megalitre Xhosa reservoirs in Tsakani obtain their water supply from there.

Water users in the affected areas, which included Withok Estates, Vulcania, Maryvlei, Brenthurst and Sallies Village, experienced an intermittent supply up until Tuesday (September 15).

This was because technicians opted to run less pumps in the pump stations than usual during the day and switch them off at night to allow levels in the reservoirs to rise.

By yesterday morning (Wednesday) water levels were sufficient for technicians to switch on all of the pumps and full supply was restored to these areas.

The City of Ekurhuleni also thanked customers who heeded the call to use water only for essential activities until the system stabilised.

Consumers should continue to be wary of their consumption in order to preserve water resources.
