#WeRead: Join SA Book Fair’s virtual book industry sessions this Friday

The day’s discussions will be framed by book development in Africa.

Members of the South African book industry are invited to join the industry-specific sessions taking place on September 11 as part of this year’s South African Book Fair.

The day’s discussions will be framed by book development in Africa from 10am to 11am and a panel moderated by APNET chairperson Samuel Kolawole and featuring Elitha van der Sandt, CEO of the South African Book Development Council, and Ernesticia Lartey Asuinura, executive director of Ghana Book Development Council.

Unpacking the South African children’s book market will see Olinka Nell, Dusanka Stojakovic, Lorato Trok and Shay Heydenrych share their experience and industry insights with Khumo Tapfumaneyi.

This will be followed by an important discussion called Do We Need Our Own University Presses? from 12 noon to 1pm with Prof Maria Frahm Arp, Prof Crain Soudien, Prof Sarah Mosoetsa, Dr Divine Fuh and Veronica Klipp.

Other sessions include writing for a Pan-African audience from 1pm to 2pm with Dr Ruby Yayra Goka, Kinyanjui Kombani, Dr Wale Okediran and Fred Khumalo, and facilitated by Ernest Oppong.

The Page Against The Screen – Is There Place For Paper Books And Ebooks? discussions will see Mandy Collins, Fred Khumalo, Gus Silber, Clare-Rose Julius, Melvin Kaabwe and Samantha Choles tackle this burning question.

The day will end with the panel Author Contracts And Copyright as experts Monica Seeber (ANFASA) and Louis Gaigher (PASA) will provide insight into the most frequently asked questions and answers on copyright and contracts.

They will also share information on the user-friendly booklet they are producing based on the ANFASA-PASA Agreement on Contract Terms (APACT).
