Members of the Brakpan SAPS Task Team and Brakpan Radio Group joined forces again this week to tackle illegal electricity connections in town.
On Monday, the group, assisted by Consts Frederick Weitz and Lebogang Mashego from the EMPD, removed “kilometres and kilometres” of cables illegally supplying electricity to the Location Road informal settlement.
According to WO Jan Roos from the Brakpan SAPS Task Team the cables are connected to the power supply at a pump station along Hamilton Avenue.
He told the Herald the cables run through the veld to Location Road.
The cables pass under the road and then become a spiderweb, supplying electricity to numerous households within the informal settlement.
The large jumble of cables, which pose a serious threat to human life, were disconnected and confiscated.
Residents are encouraged to report illegal connections to the City of Ekurhuleni on 0860 543 000/0800 102 201 or email call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za
