VIDEO: Local duo set to rock the music industry

The music video has appeared on Azokh TV channel.

VanandNash, a local upcoming musical duo, recently released their first uplifting and cheerful single, Friday Night.

The two musicians, Werner de la Rey (36, Van) and Nashaun Klaassen (38, Nash), from Brenthurst, are pleased to know their first single is already playing on various radio stations, including in the UK and USA.

Although things were tough for artists during the national lockdown, the pair didn’t hang loose and decided to shoot a music video, where friends and family made a video of themselves having fun in the comfort of their own homes, to the cheerful melody.

The duo’s first album is still a work in progress and is due for full release by the end of the year.

“During lockdown, we told each other that we would write one or two songs together, but after many late Friday nights, we had 15 songs,” Van said.

“We would literally record and write from our home studios individually, to bring the projects together at a later stage.”

Van, who also plays the guitar, was born in a musical family.

By the age of five, he could play the guitar and when he turned eight, he began studying music. As a teenager, Van performed in church choirs and rock bands alike.

The artist drew inspiration from bands such as Nirvana, Incubus and Foo Fighters.

Nash’s earliest memories of music comes from his mom always listening to the radio. At the age of nine, he was singing along to Michael Jackson songs and in 1997 he started a singing group with friends.

He has performed in New Orleans, Paris and in Hong Kong.

The two men met in church, but were on two different musical paths at the time.

Van is from a rock background and Nash is from a country, pop, folk music background, which makes their style a beautiful hybrid of most genres.

VanandNash is a music duo that coincidentally just happened when they had a jamming session at the spur of the moment.

“Here we discovered a surprising connection and a perfect blend,” they said.

“The sound of VanandNash ranges from all things rock to folk to anything in between.”
