The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni is saddened by the increase of gender-based violence (GBV) taking a hold of our country and affecting the City of Ekurhuleni.
“This comes after reports of a 54-year-old man, and a 17-year-old accomplice, allegedly murdered his mother in Brakpan,” said Clr Simangele Sabe, DA spokesperson for Gender, Children, Youth and People with Disabilities in Ekurhuleni.
“This, sadly, is not the only case of GBV in our metro.
“We cannot allow our women and children to become victims and another statistic to this heinous crime.
“I, therefore, urge greater actions to be taken against those who senselessly and brutally kill our mothers, sisters, grandmothers and children.
“Our law agencies need to protect us and ensure our safety.
“We live in a violent society, which needs urgent attention from our leaders and justice system.”
