Cement murder accused in court

A 17-year-old male was also arrested.

The 54-year-old man arrested last week for the murder of his mother (79) is scheduled to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Wednesday) for a bail application.

The Herald reported in last week’s edition ‘Son arrested for mother’s murder‘ that the Taft Avenue resident was reported missing to local police on Thursday, June 4.

Her son was arrested on June 8 after police received a tip-off about the man behaving suspiciously.

According to Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for Brakpan police, the man admitted during interrogation that he had suffocated his mother to death with a pillow.

He then concealed her body in a cement-filled drum.

A 17-year-old male was also arrested.

The victim’s son was remanded in custody following his appearance in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court last week.

He is being detained at the Boksburg Prison.

The teenager was released into the custody of his parents.
