VIDEO: Brakpan SAPS prioritises health and safety at Brakpan Taxi Rank

Local police distributed pamphlets with information regarding the virus at the taxi rank.

Local police held a Covid-19 awareness campaign at the Brakpan Taxi Rank on Tuesday where they handed out pamphlets educating taxi drivers and commuters about social distancing and sanitising.

According to Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Capt Pearl van Staad, the campaign was aimed at ensuring the safety of commuters and taxi drivers.

Van Staad, along with Sgt Faith Ntuli and other SAPS members, distributed pamphlets with information regarding the virus and how to prevent it from spreading.

Commuter Dudu Nnyamakoza, who was wearing a mask, told the Herald she felt safe when using taxis and that her children usually travel with her.

She added she carries hand wipes with her in case there is no hand sanitiser available.

Taxi driver Simon Nkozi keeps his passengers safe by sanitising their hands before they board, as well as when money is exchanged.

He also sanitises the money.

A compliance operation held by local police and the EMPD was planned for later that week where posters regarding Covid-19 regulations were to be distributed to taxi drivers to display in their vehicles.
