Eskom resumes meter-reading services

Customers who receive electricity directly from Eskom should take note that Eskom has started reading meters again.

Eskom has resumed meter-reading services in all its areas of supply in Gauteng.

The customer meter reading was suspended in March due to restrictions of the lockdown.

At the time, Eskom prioritised what it deemed as critical services.

This means the readings will now be based on customers’ actual consumption and not estimated based on their historic consumption as was applied during level five of the lockdown.

Eskom says it is gradually bringing some services back in line with level four of the lockdown and is now able to conduct meter reading services.

It has put measures in place to contain any possible spread or infection of Covid-19 while providing service to its customers.

Eskom wants to reassure customers that its employees are equipped with their regular personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as the Covid-19 protocols of maintaining a social distance.

The practice of preventative hygiene measures will also be adhered to by our employees and contractors.

Customers are urged to grant Eskom access to the meters.

Those who are able to submit their own meter readings are encouraged to do so according to their billing cycles as indicated on their statements.

In addition, Eskom continues to prioritise and respond to power failures, any emergencies posing a danger to the public, such as low-hanging conductors, essential maintenance and prepaid token-related enquiries.

Eskom Customer Service Hubs remain closed at this level of the lockdown and customers are advised to contact the power utility through one of the following channels: the contact centre on 086 003 7566, the Eskom App, email – customerservices@eskom.co.za or via SMS on 35328.
