Do you need inspiration how to choose your lottery numbers? Here are 4 ways

Every lottery game is based on chance. Although there is no exact method of choosing the numbers, it does not mean you cannot devise your own game plan to select the numbers for the next draw.

Your chances of winning a game is based on the amount of number combinations for the specific lottery. This means: The more numbers available on the board, the more number combinations there are. For example, chances of winning the US Mega Millions are 1 in 258,890,850. In this game you have to pick 5 numbers between 1 and 70 and a Mega number between 1 and 25, the odds of winning the French Lotto is 1 in 19,068,840. Here you have to choose 5 number between 1 and 49 and 1 lucky number between 1 and 10. With so many number selections, it is clear that every game is purely a game of chance.

In the end there is simply no set way of guaranteeing that you will choose the correct numbers to become the next millionaire. However, some of these strategies mentioned below might serve as a guideline to which numbers you can try your luck with for the next draw.

1.      Use your lucky numbers

Choose the numbers that have meaning in your life. Your birth date, the month that you were born in or your family members’ birthdays. Add the date and the month to use as another number. Use your family’s ages if they fall within the number range that you have to choose from.  The day that you met your spouse, got engaged or your wedding date. Your house number or the last number of your telephone number. Remember to choose higher numbers as well, special dates in your life might not go as high as some of the lotto numbers on the selection board.

2.      Quick pick option

This is one of the most used lottery winning strategies. When you select a quick pick option, the lottery game’s system will generate numbers on your behalf. If you are buying more than one ticket, this might be an easier option than having to choose numbers for each board. You can also select random numbers on your board, or you can use a number generator. Remember to select the amount of numbers to generate and the highest available number on your board so that the number generator creates numbers applicable to your game board.

3.      Hot and cold numbers strategy

With this technique you look at the hot and cold numbers of a specific lottery. The hot numbers are the numbers that are played most frequently, with the possibility of being drawn again, while the cold numbers are played less frequently which also have the possibility to be drawn in the next draws. However, this theory is not guaranteed, as the machines used for the draws pick random numbers during the draw.

4.      Use the Delta method

It is based on a statistical study of numbers next to each other. Although it is based on research, there is no guarantee that it will make you the next millionaire. For this strategy you will need a pen and paper.

  • Choose a number between 1 and 5, e.g. 2.
  • Choose 2 numbers between 1 and 8, e.g. 4, 6.
  • Choose a number close to 8, it can be above or below, e.g. 7
  • Choose 2 numbers between 8 and 15, you can choose randomly or your favourite number in this range, e.g. 11, 14.
  • Now you have a six-digit selection: 2, 4, 6, 7, 11 and 14
  • Add the numbers together, 2 + 4 + 6 + 7 + 11 + 14 = 44. The total must not be bigger than the highest number on your board. You can also have duplicate numbers in your selection. E.g. 2, 4, 7, 7, 11, 14. If the number is bigger than the highest number on the board, choose different numbers.
  • Rearrange and shuffle your selection to a different order, take the number at the end to the middle or front, and the number in the middle to the end or beginning. E.g. 7, 4, 11, 6, 14, 2. This is your delta selection.
  • In order to change your delta selection to your lotto numbers you have to do the following calculations.
  • Your first delta number is your first lotto number, E.g. 7. Now add your first lotto number to your second delta number and continue to add your next lotto number to the next delta number. E.g.

Lotto number 1 is 7.

Number 2 is 7 + 4 = 11

Number 3 is 11 + 11 = 22

Number 4 is 22 + 6 = 28

Number 5 is 28 + 14 = 42

Number 6 is 42 + 2 = 44

  • Your lotto number selection is: 7, 11, 22, 28, 42, 44
