Twelve arrests over the weekend for Flying Squad

Benoni Flying Squad members arrested 12 people and recovered two abandoned motor vehicles over the past weekend.

Amongst those arrested was a man found in possession of dagga in Brakpan.

He was nabbed along Prince George Avenue after he was found in possession of dagga weighing an excess of 110 grams.

The man was arrested immediately and the dagga confiscated.

Eight others were arrested for illegal mining and for being in the country illegally at an address along Sitole Street in Etwatwa, Benoni.

In an unrelated case, a man was arrested on the R555 close to the N12 when he was found in possession of gold weighing around 130 grams.

On Saturday at around noon, members followed up information leading to a residence in Esephetweni section, Thembisa.

In a room, members found a large quantity of loose dagga in black bags.

A man was arrested and the dagga, which weighed more than 4.5kg, was confiscated. Before leaving the scene the man’s brother arrived and offered the members R5 000 for the release of his brother. Upon handing over the money he was arrested and the money booked in as evidence

.In further policing, two abandoned vehicles were recovered, a white Toyota Corolla in Emaphupeni, Etwatwa, reported stolen on a Phola case, and a white Toyota Hilux along Mbathane Street, Daveyton, reported hijacked on an Etwatwa case.

Investigation continues in all cases.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 50, will be appearing in the local magistrates courts facing charges of possession of precious metals, dealing in drugs and bribery.
