One fatality recorded in Ekurhuleni over Easter weekend

Eleven motorists were arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Between April 9 and 13, over the Easter weekend, operations paired with enforcement on Covid-19 lockdown regulations were conducted in the City of Ekurhuleni.

Twenty roving and static roadblocks were staged in the east, south and north of the region.

Two thousand and one motor vehicles were stopped during the operations, where 880 traffic fines were issued for moving violations, defects and documentation (not in possession or failing to carry driver’s licence/professional driver’s permit). Eleven motorists were arrested for driving while intoxicated and seven unroadworthy motor vehicles were discontinued from operating on the public road.

One fatal accident took place on Sunday at 7.38pm in the Alberton area, where a male passenger died after the Toyota light delivery vehicle in which he was travelling lost control along JG Strijdom Road and rolled.

A case of culpable homicide has been registered at the Brackendowns Police Station to determine the cause and for further investigations.
