No visitors allowed at state hospitals
All visiting hours were cancelled on March 26 and this will remain in force for the duration of lockdown.
The Department of Health reminds the public there are no visiting hours at state hospitals for the lockdown period.
According to Kwara Kekana, spokesperson for the MEC for Health, droves of people are still turning up at government hospitals to visit their loved ones despite the lockdown announcement.
“The only patients allowed at hospitals during lockdown are those who present with an emergency, surgical out-patients, pregnant women and medical out-patients who are booked for collecting medication,” he said.

“Furthermore, discretion will be used for those collecting their results. However, if a medical issue can wait we request patients to rather stay at home.”
Kekana added everyone will be sanitised and be screened for Covid-19 when entering any government hospital.
“Depending on the outcomes of the screening, patients will be directed accordingly to triage points set up in our facilities,” he said.
“Anyone with respiratory symptoms will be provided with a mask.”
