Mayor announces precautionary measures for State of the City Address

“We are very disappointed that we are unable to host the public and invited guests for this year’s SOCA event."

Due to the ongoing global situation regarding the coronavirus (Covid-19), Ekurhuleni executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina yesterday (Sunday) announced precautionary measures for this year’s State of the City Address (SOCA).

After careful consultation with community services officials regarding the health and safety of everyone set to attend the SOCA, the office of the executive mayor has made the difficult decision to cancel all SOCA public viewing areas and restrict the attendance of guests at the event.

Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus pandemic, the mayor’s office felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation.

The SOCA will be digitally live streamed on the city’s digital platforms – Facebook and Twitter.

• Power FM
• Kaya FM
• Lesedi FM
• Kasie FM
• Voice of Tembisa

“We are very disappointed that we are unable to host the public and invited guests for this year’s SOCA event. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today. In my address I will be outlining the city’s state of preparedness to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak. This is not a signal for the public to panic, but the start of new habits we must adopt in order to protect our people,” said mayor Mzwandile Masina.
