Video: Local schoolgirl makes New York Fashion Week debut

The sophisticated brunette strives to be an international model.

Gabriella Cameron, headgirl of Hoërskool Die Anker, recently strutted her stuff on the runway in the most gorgeous garments imaginable at New York Fashion Week.

The event, held in New York City in the United States of America, showcases international fashion collections and is one of four major fashion weeks in the world.

The 17-year old Benoni resident was chosen by well-known fashion designer Pikkie de Beer (Willet Designs Couture) to showcase his intimate collection on an international level.

De Beer, together with Carmen Hosten from Geo+U architectural jewellery, collaborated on creating a line inspired by a humanistic approach towards metamorphosis, insect geology, and the transformation of oneself.

Each dress was complemented by a dramatic accessory piece, worn either on the face or neck, that created a surreal representation of the emotion depicted by the garment.

On February 1, Gabriella, together with De Beer, Marius Bartmann (make-up artist), Kayla Bartmann (Face of Willet), Anriette van Wyk (Photographer @Kiefkreativ), 20 other models and some parents met at the OR Tambo International Airport to set off on the trip of a lifetime.

As they arrived at their accommodation in Jersey City, they soon settled in and began preparing for the exciting week ahead.

By day three the models were up and about to appear at the model casting held by Art Hearts Fashion and their team.

Art Hearts Fashion is a leading platform for designers and artists to showcase their collections in a contemporary fashion week setting.

During fashion week, Gabriella was casted by another designer, Glaudi, from Los Angeles, and had the privilege of walking the runway prior to the Willet showcase.

Willet Designs stole the show and created a hype bigger than expected.

Gabriella and the Willet team have also been invited to Los Angeles Fashion Week later this year.

The sophisticated brunette strives to be an international model and already has plans to move to New York City next year to follow her dreams.

“I love modelling, it makes me feel at home and it is something that I am good at. It also taught me to always be humble and kind,” she said.

In 2019, Gabriella entered the Miss Springs competition where she bagged the title at a glittering ceremony.

She is not only a talented model but can also boast about being talented on the sports field.

Gabriella is a South African ringball player and also plays hockey and netball for her school.

“I am extremely excited, but also grateful for all the opportunities,” Gabriella said.
