Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Two homes were burgled.

The break-ins took place at properties along Bobstay Road in Dalpark Extension One and Biggs Avenue in Brakpan North.

TVs, laptops, groceries and other household items were stolen.

* Tools were stolen from a vehicle parked at an address along North Avenue.

• Saturday – The driver of a silver Toyota Fortuner was hijacked by two gunmen near Koot Street along Heidelberg Road (R23).

The incident took place around 7am.

No further information was available at the time of publication.

* A woman was robbed of her cellphone along Elizabeth Eybers Street in Dalpark Extension 11.

The victim was walking with a friend around 5.20pm when a white vehicle with four male occupants stopped.

They asked the victim for directions to Dalpark and two of the men alighted the vehicle.

One of them then threatened the woman with a knife and demanded her cellphone, which she handed over.

The men returned to the car and drove off.

* A vacant home in Sabie Street, Sallies Village, was stripped of water taps, copper pipes and electrical wires.

* Two cars were stolen.

An Alfa Romeo was stolen from Wenden Avenue and a blue Toyota Conquest was stolen from Abercorn Avenue..

• Sunday – A man was robbed of his belongings at knifepoint along Goods Road.

The victim was confronted by two men as he was walking near the bridge around 7.30am.

He was searched and robbed of his wallet, cellphone and other valuables.

* A man was arrested following a robbery at a Voortrekker Road shop.

Pretending to be customers, two men entered the shop at about 5pm and asked to buy washing powder.

They then instructed the cashier to lie down and robbed her of her cellphone.

The men took a large sum of money from the cash register and ran out.

The cashier’s screams alerted the owner of a neighbouring shop to the incident and he gave chase.

The commotion also caught the attention of patrolling police officers and a suspect was arrested.
