Police hoping to smoke out cigarette van hijackers

The cigarettes were transported to the place of delivery in two vehicles.

Local police are on the hunt for three men who hijacked a cigarette delivery vehicle in Brakpan on Tuesday, last week.

According to Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, the incident took place at an address along Goods Road just after 9am.

She told the Herald the cigarettes were transported to the place of delivery in two vehicles.

“The complainant was on official duty delivering cigarettes when he heard a firearm being cocked and felt something hard pressed against his back,” she said.

The victim was instructed to lie down and three men, all wearing balaclavas, then started loading boxes of cigarettes from one delivery vehicle to the other – a Volkswagen panel van.
