Don’t lie about a crime

Those found to be lying will face the full might of the law.

Brakpan police have reported an increase in robberies where only cellphones are stolen.

According to the local SAPS, the majority of these cases are false and “victims” are claiming to have been robbed in order to make fraudulent insurance claims.

Insurance fraud is considered a serious crime, as is perjury/lying to police.

A person who makes a false statement can be fined or sentenced to jail if proven guilty.

Police explained they are working with all local cellular service providers to confirm information, such as the location from where the cellphone was reportedly taken.

They also work closely with insurance companies.

Those found to be lying will face the full might of the law.
