Wi Jump
Another Brakpan attraction is the Wi Jump Trampoline Park with an entire football field covered with trampolines. Kids get a free pair of wi:jump socks and are then allowed to enter the huge play area where they can jump on different types of trampolines. There’s a kid restaurant on-site and the kids can jump for quite a while on their ticket. Open for kids’ parties.
Stony Mountain Vineyards
Half an hour west of Brakpan in Albemarle, you can explore some of South Africa’s most fruitful vineyards at the Stony Mountain Vineyards. Overlooking Badin Lake, you’ll find mountains, deer, grapevines bursting with fruit and a casual and welcoming atmosphere in which to taste different types of full, rich and robust wines. There’s a tour that you can take if you want to see the process of wine-making or you can just sit back and sip.
Rondebult Bird Sanctuary
The Rondebult bird sanctuary, located 18 minutes southwest of Brakpan, is a bird-fancier’s paradise. Visitors can enter from 6:00a.m. and stroll the grounds or enter a bird hide from which they can view and photograph some of the varieties of water fowl.
Since the birds migrate, there are different birds at different times of the year, necessitating multiple trips at various times of the year.
The hides are locked for safety. Some of the birds that you can see at the sanctuary include flamingos, yellow billed ducks, spur winged geese, stilts, Egyptian Geese, Red Knobbed Coots, Crakes, Dabchicks, Lapwings, and Ibis.
Klipriviersberg Municipal Nature Reserve
This stunning nature reserve, 40 minutes west of Brakpan, offers hikers numerous walking trails from which to choose. There are endless stunning views at all times of the year in this well managed and maintained park.
Klipriviersberg is the largest proclaimed nature reserve in the Johannesburg Metropolitan area. You’ll find a surprising diversity of wildlife ranging from larger game such as red hartebeest, black wildebeest and zebra to many items of geological, archaeological, botanical, historical and cultural interest.
There are also a number of protected species in the reserve which is a favorite of bird watchers. 230 bird species have been identified in the reserve. The main activity in the reserve is hiking. Visitors may bring a picnic.
