Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A home along Civin Road, Sonneveld, was burgled of TVs, a laptop and other valuables.

* A man was arrested after an attempt was made to break into a home in Cardigan Street, Dalview.

A vehicle parked on the property was also broken into.

* Two men were arrested after a man was robbed of his backpack at knifepoint.

The victim was confronted by two men as he was walking along Helium Road in Vulcania around 6.15pm.

The perpetrators were caught by two bystanders and the police were called.

The victim’s backpack, which contained his wallet, cellphone, house keys, jacket and lunchbox, was returned to him.

* A man was robbed of his cellphone, wallet and other items by the occupants of a red car.

The victim was walking along Ergo Road in Maryvlei just after 8pm when the car pulled up alongside him and one of the passengers offered him a lift.

Once inside the car, he was threatened with a gun and told to hand over his belongings.

• Saturday – A shop in Mall@Carnival was robbed of undisclosed goods by three men.

Each of the robbers were armed with a different weapon – one carried a gun, the other a crowbar and one was brandishing a pick.

A security guard on duty at the mall was confronted by the trio around 5.35am.

They demanded his cellphone, radio and panic button, and forced him into the shop.

The robbers loaded goods into a bin and a large bag, and fled.

* A silver Nissan bakkie was stolen from the corner of Voortrekker Road and High Street.

* A TV was stolen from a home in Edward Street, Anzac.

* The driver of a silver Mercedes-Benz was hijacked of his vehicle on the on-ramp to the N17 highway.

The incident took place around 7.55am when the driver was forced to stop to avoid colliding with a silver Volkswagen Tiguan parked in the road.

Four men appeared at his vehicle and demanded he open the doors.

Two of the men were armed with guns.

The driver was pulled into the back of his car, where his face was covered with a jacket.

He was driven to a house, where he was kept for about two hours.

The victim was released in a veld near Primrose, Germiston.

• Sunday – Three homes were burgled.

The break-ins took place at properties along Northdene Avenue, Inverness Street in Dalview and 20th Road in Denneoord.

TVs, jewellery, children’s toys, clothes and other valuables were stolen.

• Kidnapping and extortion: 2
• Armed robbery: 2
• Possession of hijacked motor vehicle: 1
• Theft: 2
• Attempted rape: 1
• Speeding: 6

• Shoplifting: 1
• Defeating the ends of justice: 1
