Flying Squad swoops into Tsakane

The squad members also arrested two suspects in Leachville.

Benoni Flying Squad officers arrested two men in Tsakane over the weekend suspected of being involved in numerous crimes across Gauteng.

A search of two premises, one along Nhalanhla Street and the other in Ndongeni Street, led to the recovery and seizure of five unlicensed firearms, 118 live rounds of ammunition, a sledgehammer, a crowbar, electronic equipment, jewellery, bank cards, balaclavas and gloves.

“Two suspects were immediately arrested,” said W/O Grant Giblin, communications officer for the Benoni Flying Squad.

The squad officers also arrested two suspects in Leachville after they were found in possession of a gate motor suspected to have been stolen.

Benoni Flying Squad officers partake in crime prevention operations across Gauteng and assist other policing units whenever they can in following up information.

They make arrests and seizures in many locations that are not even their policing areas thus demonstrating their eagerness to make an impact on crime in the country and serving the community.

Other successes for the squad over the weekend included:

• Officers were following information at Madala Hostel, Kagiso, and made an arrest after recovering two unlicensed firearms with six live rounds of ammunition.

• They recovered seven abandoned motor vehicles: a white Nissan NP200 in Krugersdorp stolen on a Kagiso case, a white Volvo Truck on the R23 (Heidelberg Road) which was hijacked on the N3 near Harrismith, a white Volkswagen Polo in Inxiweni Section, Tembisa, reported hijacked at Rabie Ridge, a white Ford Ranger in Crystal Park reported stolen at Midrand, a white Scannia Truck at John Foster Road, Secunda, reported hijacked on a Putfontein case, two white Fuso Trucks along Held Street, Daveyton reported stolen at Delmas and another at Van Buuren offramp, N3 South after it was hijacked from Griffith Road.

In total, the squad arrested five suspects, recovered seven motor vehicles, seven unlicensed firearms and 124 live rounds of ammunition.

Investigation continues in all the cases.

The suspects, aged between 25 and 45, face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of housebreaking implements, possession of suspected stolen goods and contravening the Communication and Transact Act.
