EMPD recovers huge haul of stolen goods

All the suspected stolen property was booked in at the Tsakane Police Station.

EMPD officers in pursuit of a stolen car in Tsakane on Thursday last week uncovered a cache of suspected stolen property.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD officers from the Nigel precinct were alerted by officials from a vehicle-tracking company that they were in pursuit of a stolen white Volkswagen Golf.

“The metro police joined in the chase and the Volkswagen Golf was found abandoned along Mhloli Street in Tsakane,” he said.

“The gates of the house where the vehicle was abandoned were found open and nobody was home.

“The fact that the engine of the Golf was still hot and the gates were open with nobody home made the officers suspicious and, on searching the yard and the house, they came across numerous suspected stolen items and vehicle parts.”

They also found a red Mazda Sting which had been stolen in Evaton last month, as well as two other vehicles with tampered with their VIN numbers.

The Volkswagen Golf had been stolen in Benoni.

Other suspected stolen property recovered included a bank speedpoint gadget normally used by businesses, purses, jewellery, various vehicle lamps, speakers, windscreens and vehicle doors.

“All the suspected stolen property was booked in at the Tsakane Police Station and the recovered vehicles were taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound in Benoni for further investigations,” added Kgasago.
