Long weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the long weekend:

• Friday – A suspected ATM fraudster was apprehended by security guards at Mall@Carnival and handed over to police after a man’s bank card was stolen.

The incident took place around 6.40pm and the victim’s card was returned.

* A Jones Avenue resident was attacked by four men and stabbed.

The victim was reversing out of his driveway just after 6am when the criminals struck.

They took the keys to his car and house.

The victim made his way to the police station and reported the matter.

He was later taken to hospital for medical treatment.

A computer tower was stolen from the house and a case of house robbery is under investigation.

* A petrol station along Goods Road was robbed by a gang of five men at about 7.40pm.

The robbers made off with cash and cigarettes after threatening staff and customers at gunpoint.

• Saturday – A case of murder was opened after a 61-year-old Anzac man was found dead in a pool of blood in his Loerie Lane home.

The man’s body was discovered by a flatmate at about 2am.

It is alleged the victim was involved in an argument with a friend on Friday evening.

The deceased’s car, a white Mazda 323, was stolen.

* A security guard on duty at a company along Kitzinger Avenue was tied up by two robbers.

The pair confronted him in the guardroom at about 11.10pm.

Copper cable, copper wire, a compactor and other valuables were stolen.

* Cellphones and laptops were stolen during a break-in at a home along Taft Avenue.

• Sunday – No priority crimes were reported at the time of publication.

• Monday – A white Honda Ballade was stolen from an address along Vootrekker Road.

• Speeding: 8
• Pedestrian on freeway: 5
