Man who assaulted nephew jailed for 15 years
Investigations revealed the man had previously been in trouble with the law for assault.
A 50-year-old repeat assault offender was last month sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for a vicious attack on his nephew.
Capt Pearl van Staad, the spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, told the Herald the Leachville man brutally beat the child, who was 11 years old at the time, with an electrical cord in 2016.
The victim’s parents had died earlier that year.

“He assaulted his sister’s grieving son with an electrical cord all over his body,” she said.
“The child had to go to school with those injuries and the school reported the matter to the SAPS and social workers.”
He was found guilty of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and sentenced on April 23.
