Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (January 15 to 16):

Cases reported:

• Business burglary: 1
• Possession of drugs: 1
• Attempted theft of motor vehicle: 1
• Residential burglary: 1
• Robbery with firearm: 1
• Shoplifting: 1

Arrests:

• Possession of drugs: 1
• Shoplifting: 1

Armed robbery:

• A man was robbed of a large sum of cash after a gunman climbed into his car at the corner of Heidelberg Road and Airport Drive in Dalpark.

The incident took place at about 10am on Friday as the victim was stationary at the traffic lights.

A man armed with a gun got into the victim’s car and instructed him to drive to Johannesburg.

They travelled to a shopping centre where the gunman was joined by several accomplices.

The victim was taken to a unknown location where the robbers demanded his banking details and used the banking app on his cellphone to transfer money.

Cash was also withdrawn from the victim’s account and a further amount was spent on liquor.

The victim was then driven to a different location where the robbers left him with his car.

Burglary:

• Rangeview Road, Dalpark (business).

The break-in took place on Monday.

Stolen: Various tools.

• 16th Road, Witpoort Estates.

The home was burgled on Monday.

Stolen: A braai stand, liquor and other household items.

Attempted motor vehicle theft:

• An attempt was made to steal a car (make and model not provided) from Mall@Carnival yesterday (Tuesday).

The vehicle’s owner claims he found an unknown man inside his car when he returned to the vehicle at around midday after shopping.

The would-be thief ran to a nearby car and drove off.
