Unfortunately, due to the warm climate and soaring temperatures, it can be difficult to maintain a garden and keep it looking lush and green.
Here are five water-wise tips for gardeners to follow to help them save water while keeping their gardens looking beautiful:
• Water your gardens during the late afternoon/early evening when temperatures are cooler.
• Make use of grey water (‘dirty’ water from baths, basins, washing machines and other household appliances) to water your plants.
• Scatter mulch around your flowerbeds as it will help keep the soil cool.
• Plant indigenous plants that are drought resistant and do not require a lot of watering.
• Remove weeds and other alien plants from your garden.
