Tip-off leads to illegal gun, stolen car

Information received by the metro police was that a male passenger in a black Audi sedan was in possession of a firearm.

Two men were arrested in Tsakane on Thursday, last week, by EMPD Public Order Policing Task Team members following a tip-off from concerned members of the community.

The tip-off resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle, as well as an unlicensed 9mm pistol with three live rounds.

The firearm’s make and serial number were filed off.

“Information received by the metro police was that a male passenger in a black Audi sedan was in possession of a firearm,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

A vehicle fitting the description was stopped along Ndaba Drive at about 3pm and an unlicensed firearm was found in the passenger’s possession.

“The Audi was found to have been stolen in Klerksdorp in March 2013 so the driver was also arrested,” added Kgasago.

The pair, aged 21 and 28, were detained at the Tsakane Police Station for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of a stolen motor vehicle respectively.
