Man nabbed with stolen car

The Toyota was stolen in KwaThema earlier this year.

Instructors at the EMPD Training Academy were out in Brakpan on Saturday doing practicals with metro police cadets when a Toyota Corolla attracted their attention.

After a thorough inspection, it was found that the car was stolen.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the driver was immediately arrested and the vehicle impounded.

The stolen Toyota was stopped along Ergo Road where it was found the clearance certificate and rear plate had been tampered with.

It was reported stolen in KwaThema earlier this year.

The 35-year-old driver claimed he had recently bought the vehicle but had no registration papers for it because there was an outstanding amount to be settled.

The car was taken to the SAPS pound in Benoni for further investigations and the suspect was detained at the Brakpan Police Station.
