SPCA warns against neglect of dogs

The owner of the dogs will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The Brakpan SPCA recently obtained a warrant of search-and-seizure for the immediate removal of four dogs at a property in Tsakane.

One of the dogs had been hit by a car about two weeks prior, and the owner had not rendered veterinary treatment or made any attempt to seek treatment for the animal.

The Brakpan SPCA inspectorate attended the scene within 15 minutes of receiving the complaint.

Once at the scene, it was established that the dog was in a tremendous amount of pain and the inspectorate immediately made their urgent application before a magistrate for a warrant in terms of the Animals Protection Act no 71 of 1962.

Returning with the warrant in hand, all four dogs were seen roaming the street freely, the initial causative factor resulting in these injuries.

The dogs were removed immediately and taken into the custody of the Brakpan SPCA.

Due to the severity of the injuries sustained, the injured dog had to be euthanised as to keep the animal alive would result in cruel and unnecessary suffering.

The owner of the dogs will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The vital and important work done by the society every day would not be possible without the support of the community.

Residents are urged to consider donating towards the costs of treatment and housing of the three remaining dogs, and their now bright future.
