Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A home in McMillan Street, Brakpan North, was burgled of two TVs and a laptop.

* Clothes, groceries, electronics and kitchen appliances were stolen from a residence in Edward Street, Anzac.

* A car parked at an address in Mitchell Crescent, Brenthurst, was stripped of its wheels.

• Saturday – A man was rushed to the Far East Rand Hospital after being assaulted during a mob justice attack in the Plastic City informal settlement.

The man was reportedly attacked by community members after fatally stabbing another man with whom he had allegedly been involved in an altercation.

Brakpan SAPS were called to the informal settlement at around 8am and found both men covered in blood.

The stabbing victim, a 26-year-old Mozambican national, was declared dead on the scene while the injured man was taken to hospital under police guard.

A case of murder is under investigation.

* Two teenagers were robbed of their cellphones at knifepoint by four males.

The incident took place along Gardiner Avenue at about 3.50pm and a suspect was later arrested.

* A bottle store in Voortrekker Road was robbed of cash and liquor by three gunmen.

The robbers entered the store at about 8.30pm and demanded money.

One person was pistol whipped and one shot was fired.

The trio fled in a white Hyundai.

* The occupants of a house in Langenhoven Street, Dalpark, were robbed by four men.

One of the victims was in his bedroom at around 9pm when he saw a man walk past the door.

The robber forced the victim into the lounge where his family members had already been rounded up.

One robber kept a watch over the victims, while the others ransacked the house.

All of the robbers were brandishing guns and they fled with jewellery, TVs, clothes and other valuables.

• Sunday – A man was shot and killed in the Mkhankwa Village informal settlement in Witpoort.

The shooting took place at about 1.30pm and reportedly stemmed from a dispute between the victim and the gunman.

A murder case has been opened.

* The body of a 30-year-old homeless woman was found near Bosman Stadium.

Police were called to an area along Abercorn Avenue just after 8am after the woman’s lifeless body was discovered by her partner.

It is believed the homeless couple regularly slept in the area.

The woman had no visible injuries and an inquest docket has been opened.

* A home in Essex Street, Dalview, was broken into and a dog on the property was poisoned.

No further information was provided.

* A security guard on duty at a company along Coetzer Street in Withok Estates was robbed of his uniform and cellphone by three men.

The robbers, one of whom was armed with a gun, gained access to the premises at about 10.30am.

Other cases:

• Thursday – Tyres and mags were stolen from a vehicle parked at an address along Henry Moll Street in Minnebron.

• Wednesday – A laptop was stolen from a car in Gloucester Street, Kenleaf.

• Shoplifting: 2
• Possession of unlicensed ammunition: 1
• Murder: 1
• Possession of stolen goods: 3
• Common robbery: 1
• Drunk driving: 2
